Grunny Grunberg - Projects

As an actor you can't really pick and choose too much at the beginning. And my imdb page pretty much shows that. Not that these shows weren’t classics and extremely well written and gripping in their tone and story.

Grunny Grunberg - Projects A Great Start

"Baywatch Hawaii"

I gladly, happily accepted the role of the nightclub host at a karoke night. "It's 'Baywatch'! Everyone around the world is going to see this! A kagillian people watch this show!" They barely covered me and I didn’t get any close-ups. Perfect example of an actor just doing his thing.

"Silk Stalkings," "Pacific Blue," "Mike Hammer"

These were all hugely popular syndicated shows. I was just so happy to be working and building a resume. But after doing a "Silk Stalkings," the producers asked me to come back and star in a pilot for a new show. I was one of two cops, and it was just a blast… The problem was that the fans of the show were expecting to see [original series stars] Rob Estes and Mitzi Kapture, and here are these two bozos trying to bumble through a crime and it was like, "What? What the hell is this?"

Grunny Grunberg - Melrose Place

"Melrose Place"

Now "Melrose Place" was a different story. When I auditioned for this role, they told me and the other actors, "Ok, you guys are going to be a group of doctors that Michael hangs out with at the hospital." I was like, "Ok! This is cool! 'Melrose Place'! This is going to be huge!" I think I ended up holding a cup of coffee and saying, "Hey Michael, what's up?" And that’s about it. They never called us back.

"VIP"

Pam Anderson produced this show, so she had a lot on her mind, and a lot to do. But she was always completely prepared, and is the nicest person.

HOWEVER,

After shooting, just a couple of days later, I saw her at the mall. I went up to her and said, "Hey Pam! How'ya doin?" She looked at me like I was a stalker. She grabbed her kids, and took off out of the store! I'm wondering, "What the hell's going on?" I must have resembled some guy who was sending her letters from prison.

Greg Grunberg Audio Player

"NYPD Blue"

I got to work with Rick Schroeder. (Not Ricky. Rick Schroeder.) And I worked with one of my heroes, Dennis Franz. In one scene, I have to piss him off and he tries to drown me in the sink. So he grabs me, and shoves my head into the sink and my arms are flailing all around and I cut my hands on the glass and I was really into it. And after that take I looked down and there's a bunch of hair floating in the water, and I'm like, "What happened? Dennis, just pretend like you're pulling my hair out."

And he said, "When they say action I bring on the evil." And that was the last time that I tried to give him a note.
